Koi Treatment
How to treat ulcer on your KoiTreatment for Koi has no short-cuts
Step 1: Loose tissues carefully removed Step 2: Antibiotic injection and medication
A common symptom that requires treatment is ulcers developing on your koi. Ulcers are open sores that occur on the skin or the mucous membrane of the body. They are characterized by tissue breakdown and often accompanied with the discharge of pus.
Causes of ulcers tend to stem from poor water quality and inadequate aeration of the water which stresses the koi. Over time parasites might surface and itchiness may cause the fish to rub against the pond surfaces leading to breaks in the skin and ulcer formation. Viruses cause some ulcers and bacteria are opportunistic secondary infections.
Depending on the serverity of the sores, they are either treated by direct application of medicine or in more servere cases, antibiotic injections are given.
